This might sound gross but I have a really bad habit of bitting my nails! I hate it! I have always wanted long nails but I keep biting them. I'll watch T.V. and not even notice I bit them. I've tried putting nail polish on but it does nothing. What should I do?

That's not Gross at all hun, I do it too Angels-quest my sister has lovely long nails but me never!
You will not realise you are doing it as it is a habit you have probably done for a long time and in the end it becomes apart of your day something you just have to do like eating and drinking.

I read on the Internet that wearing nail polish works but I cant see how??? It never did for me, I did try the stuff you can get from the chemist, you can either paint it on or it comes as a sponge with a hole in the middle that you dip your finger in, It is bitter and tastes so GROSE!
It is handy if you put it on and then watch TV as when you go to bite your nails you think "AHHH whats that!"

Also I know this may sound daft but I found false nails Really effective! you get them and stick them on with glue which means the false plastic nail is covering your real one and you cant bite it! The only problem with this is that they can sometimes ping off OOPS...Mine did when I handed someone their change in a shop I worked in, "Here's your change and a....erm...oh Dear" lol.
But this shouldn't be a problem if you are at home, I kept wearing mine and my nails grew quite abit when i took them off I didnt want to bite them anymore, But unfortunately something happened and I got stressed and nails all gone I still have my false nails ready to try again! Seriously I read about doing this on the net too so it may work for you.

If not Why not try the bitter stuff? ask in you pharmacy for Anti nail biting polish, I'm sorry I do not know the exact make is where you live.

Do not be embarrassed. Millions of people bite their nails, It is usually due to stress and anxiety and it is nothing to be ashamed of, please be patient with yourself in time you will get there! xxxx

I may have nails...I just bite around them....so much grosser!!

I have heard wearing gloves helps, but erm...1) not good in very hot weather.
2) will not look very cool....on the other hand it may start up a new fashion trend!

Sooo many people bite nails, so you are not the only one....and I can think of far worse things. Although it doe's look nice to have long nails (within reason)

Yes, if you can get that stuff Kaytee was talking about, it tastes very bitter if you get it in your mouth & you can paint it on the nail, or dip your nails in it. I cant remember what it is called now.
I wonder if rubbing some lemon peel on your nails would work? No, seriously, i know it can be used to shine your nails, and being as lemons are bitter, wonder if it would also leave a bitter taste??? Have to experiment there.

Habits are darn hard to break aren't they
Would chewing gum help, I mean while you are watching tv?...I guess not, cos it doesn't stop you getting to your nails huh!

I'll have to ponder this one...mmmm

Yes true.
often i find too, if you stop one habit, you kinda move it on to something else that then becomes a habit! Us humans really are so complicated huh?

What about imagining it's bone you are biting off, and not just nails...sounds weird i know...someone said something similar to me once & it sure put me off, never bit my nails again!LOL

What my friend and I both did to stop biting our nails is to imagine our crush watching us. see, not only is he cute, but hes smart and has made a invisible video camera thing so he can watch you (not in the shower!). Crazy, but it worked. And no, he does not think nail biting is the coolest thing ever.

i was biting nails before.. i don't know what stopped me.. it was so automatic... bitter tasting nail enamel will help.. and also gloves... pushing your cuticles a little might help make your nails look a little longer...

I have been able to stop biting my nails for the longest time by painting them a color I like, well I started biting them again yesterday! I starting loving my long nails and I just randomly started biting again. I think I'll try fake nails for awhile (thanks to those who suggested that).
