Mum is having pain pain on her back...Hii guys, well as it is said in the subject , it concerns my mother. Since 2 days, she is feeling back pain but she doesn't want to go to a doctor now and told me that her friend suggested her to take Dynastat and that it will relieve her from her pain. However, I never heard from this medication before, do you have some information on it? Is it effective? Mum has been taking this since yesterday and I am worried about her health and she doesn't want to go the doctor now . She told me that the pain will go away but I am her daughter and eventually I am worried for her. . I hope that the pain will go away otherwise I'll have to convince her to go to the Dr. I can't understand why she doesn't want to go???when I ask her, she says that it is not necessary now.

Hey sweetie, sorry to hear your mum has back pain and you are concerned about her, It seems she thinks she knows what she is doing and thinks it is best for her and she perhaps thinks to herself you have nothing to worry about, OF COURSE YOU WILL though you are her daughter it is only normal.
Did you read this website about the tablets?
http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3466-s-DYNASTAT.aspx
does your mum have a fear of the doctors? do you know what is behind her not wanting to go or do you think that maybe she just simply does not want to waste their time which SHE WONT be that is a doctors job.
I personally do not know much about these tablets but it seems they are doctor supplied so your mum shouldn't really take these with out being prescribed, I do not want to worry you by saying this but Isnt there something else she can take? I am not sure again where you live but Paracetamol, and ibuprofen are very good pain killers available from chemists without a prescription must just say though that if your mum suffers from a stomach ulcer ibuprofen is not a great option as it can irritate this.
Can you sit down with your mum, tell her you do not want to nag but you are worried about her taking those tablets, would she take something more available and non prescription, she should not worry about wasting doctors time thats what they are there for, it could just be that she has strained a muscle and the doctor will tell her to take normal pain killers, maybe prescribe something a little stronger then paracetamol but at least he will be giving her something and knowing what she is allowed to take putting your mind at rest.
I do not think the tablets your mum is taking will do her bad harm, if she isnt taking them for a very long time, but still try to convince her there are other options, her friend has probably taken these tablets for back pain and that is why she recommended them to your mum, but really people should not take drugs perscribed to others.
Ibuprofen are also a great anti inflammatory drug great for period pain and back pain headaches e.t.c.
PLEASE REMEMBER I AM NOT a doctor I am just going on my own opinion, I May be wrong but Please do not panic, nothing awful is going to happen to your mum, be there for her and let her know you are just concerned as you love her.
I hope I have helped in someway, like your friend you cannot make your mum change her mind if it is something she wants to do, I am sure she will be OK, but as these are prescribed I would not advise her to take them long term, and with all tablets your mum should be aware of side effects.
Take care sweetie xxx

Hii Kaytee... again for your support and your concern!!!I really appreciate that sincerely. My mum is feeling a bit better, I talked to her. The fact is like you said, she thinks taht she'll waste her time if she goes to the doctor. However, I asked her that if she doesn't get better then I'll accompany her to the GP and she agreed.
Fortunately she feels better today. I am relieved from that worry that her pain persist but thank God, things are a bit better.
I visited that website and I found it quite interesting. By the way, did I ever mention that and that !!!!
Cheers everyone!!!!

Hey Sonia,
So sorry I am late to this post.
Am keeping my fingers firmly crossed that your Mums pain has cleared up now?
I know how painful back pain can be. But I also know how so many people worry so much that they will feel stupid 'it's only something minor' (they think) not like my limbs falling off!
But they fail to see that something minor could turn into something major if left. But on the other side of the coin, yes sometimes it is a case of just a passing pain, or illness that will just go away on it's own.But it's best to get things checked out, if a symptom persists, even if just to give you peace of mind.
I'm a wont go to the doctor culprit myself!! So I cant talk. But can understand what a worry it is for you,and you did right to say that you would go with your Mum if she is no better. She sure is lucky to have such a kind & caring Daughter
Hope Mum is feeling much better now
hugs,
