my name is maria, i and i joined this because i really need a place like this. my friends kinda laugh (and call me emo, even when i tell them that emo is a kind of music that died with the ninties) if i try to talk about anything. im canadian but i live in america (elko nevada to be exact). im probably going to be asking more questions than giving answers because if i had answers i wouldnt be here. i really like music and im a bit of a shoe freak. the song that best describes my feelings is "nobodys home' by avril lavigne. just turned 13. i have twin brother and my parents are divorced.

Forgive me if I am wrong but doesnt "Emo" Mean that you dress like the people in Good Charlotte? H.I.M and even like Avril? Im not very clued up on the word but I would think that is nothing to be ashamed of and I bet you are really cool! (I love those bands!!)

Don't be so sad. People laugh cause they are stupid. I am 31 and proud to be a freak. I know that it is easy to just say it and not so easy to live it. I was a complete loner in school. People never new what category to put me in. On one hand I was a nerd on the other I could beat up anyone. So they called me a crazy loner. It all passes. I also like Avril and H.I.M. and most of other music. I found the best way to make jokes stop is not to show that it hurts. At first they'll push harder, but once they see it's not working they stop and simply avoid You. That's when You are going to notice who Your friends are.
Just don't stuff the pain. Find someone that You can talk to on the moments notice. Even a teddy bear can help. I used to talk to my dog all the time. I new she would not understand, but it did make it easier.

People are mean cause they have self-esteem problems. They pick on You because they know that You don't.

I think being an individual, not following what everyone else does/wears/listens too etc...is a very brave step to take, and one that makes you who you are. it takes guts to be that way you know. i always said i wouldn't be like all the other sheep! (as sheep tend to follow each other, and thats how i learn't a lot of people behaved too!) So be you, because that is just GREAT!

thanks detoam. i hang out with the 'only one of a clique' clique. history buff, math whiz, horse freak, and the anime kids. and me, the pirate. my school is very ,er, isolated so youve got the country kids and the preps. rather resistent to change too.

You very welcome. I think the best part about it is that You can actually have fun with it. I am considered to be very strange and weird so I act like it. I have no problem with simply starting to sing whenever I feel like it or whatever else. After a while I realized that it was actually fun. Everyone looks and calls me weird, but I know that they wish they could do the same.
So have fun. Let them say whatever. They are just jealous that You can express Yourself without fear and they are stuck with predefined set of rules on how to act. Look at Bill Gates. Everyone was making fun of him and now he can buy any country he wants. That's just one example. Einstein and Stephen Hawkings are the other.
